Description: MediHerb Fe-Max Iron Tonic
MediHerb Fe-Max Iron Tonic contains more bioavailable iron amino acid chelate (iron bisglycinate) which may be better tolerated by the GIT reducing the risk of gastrointestinal complaints associated with other forms of iron. Other herbs and nutrients are included to help to enhance iron absorption and maintain healthy blood.
Indications

- May assist in the management of dietary iron deficiency when dietary intake is inadequate.
- Source of iron. Iron is necessary for the formation of haemoglobin which transports oxygen to the tissues.
- For the prevention and management of B12 deficiencies due to inadequate dietary intake.
- Contains iron bisglycinate for reduced gastrointestinal complaints.
Dose and Administration
Dose and Administration: MediHerb Fe-Max Iron Tonic
Adults:
5 mL with water or juice 3 times daily.
Children over 6 years:
Use Salisbury's Rule for children.

Children over 2 years - adjusted for Body Surface Area (BSA)
Calculation for a child weighing less than 30kg:
Percentage of adult dose for child = Weight (kgs) x 2
Calculation for a child weighing more than 30kg:
Percentage of adult dose for child = Weight (kgs) + 30
Contraindications and Cautions
Contraindications and Cautions: MediHerb Fe-Max Iron Tonic
- Contraindicated in haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis or iron-loading anaemias (thalassaemia, sideroblastic anaemia).
- Due to Licorice: caution is advised in those taking thiazide or loop diuretics and in those with elevated liver enzymes taking immunosuppressives; contraindicated in hypertension and oedema.
- Caution during pregnancy, long-term use is not recommended.
- If taking levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, penicilamine, quinolones, tetracyclines, bisphosphonates, and cholestyramine, separate doses by at least two hours.
- Allopurinol, can increase liver storage of iron and should not be used in conjunction with iron supplements.
- Contains potassium sorbate and sugar.
- Monitor patients taking thyroxine.
- Not for the treatment of iron deficiency conditions.
- Vitamin supplements should not replace a balanced diet.
- Discontinue 7 days prior to general anaesthesia.
